Clinical and Psychoeducational Groups
Group therapy may be what you are looking for when you want help and could use a community of support. It's amazing how
powerful and relieving it is to sit with other normal, every day people who have also suffered, struggled and eventually overcome. I have years of experience with creating, leading and supervising groups that emphasize clients' strengths and innate resiliencies. Groups can change your life and they can also be a lot of fun. I offer two different types of groups:
Clinical Groups
These groups are diagnosis specific. They can be made up of children, teens or adults. In clinical groups, the clinician observes and intervenes within the group process to improve healing. Basically, in a clinical group, it's not what you say, but how you said it and to whom. While talking in the group is the most common activity a group engages in, some groups might use the arts as their main instrument for healing. Groups for children usually include play therapy.
Psychoeducational Groups
These groups offer a mix of introspective and interactive activities around a specific theme for the purpose of learning and coping. Originally used to help people cope with physical illness, psychoeducational groups are now very popular for all sorts of issues as they are supportive, they build community, offer new perspectives, and encourage the sharing of resources.
